What is it?  Working group of residents in the Malvern area taking action on issues related to parent engagement in education.

Description

Parents, educators and workers in the community come together to design and host educational and social activities to boost parent engagement around successful child and youth development. Parents also deconstruct the education system and provide community members with useful knowledge to navigate the system.

Parents work to engage the community, plan and organize workshops, and make resources available for parents and children.

Members are expected to take on a leadership role in the planning of the sessions and also coordinate activities and workshops.

Responsibilities

  1. Consult with parents in the community to determine education issues that affect them;
  2. Assist with organizing and planning events and workshops for parents on various education issues;
  3. Liaise with the Toronto District School Board;
  4. Identify and connect parents to educational resources.

Requirements

  • Good planning and organization skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Must attend a volunteer orientation.
