Description |
Kindergarten Kids is a registered school readiness program for children who will be starting school in September and their parents. The program prepares the parents and children for a smooth transition into school. Sessions take place at the Ontario Early Years Centre at the Jane Finch Mall. Staff work with children in small groups to develop the needed skills for school such as: social, cognitive, pre- handwriting, self-help, language development and problem solving skills. Workshops for parents run concurrently with the children’s program (onsite). Workshops help parents to familiarize themselves with kindergarten curriculum, children separation anxiety, healthy eating habits, importance of children’s self – help skills, setting routines, building children’s self-esteem, etc. Parents and children participate in 20 sessions over 10 weeks (2 sessions per week). At the end of 20 sessions, each parent receives a report card for their child, which discusses their child’s progress. In addition, in the comment section, the program staff indicate area(s) in which the child needs extra support and offer suggestions to the parents for how support can be provided for the child. Mondays and Wednesdays, 1:00-3:00 p.m. Next session begins September 6, 2017 for children who will start Kindergarten in September 2018. |
