Description |
The Pathways to Education program was created to reduce the high school drop-out rate of youth in various communities. The program works in partnership with parents, community agencies, volunteers, local school boards and high school staff to provide four types of support: 1. ACADEMIC: Tutoring is provided in five core subjects four nights a week. 2. SOCIAL: Group mentoring as well as specialty and career mentoring provide a venue for students to explore academic, social and career opportunities through extra-curricular activities. 3. FINANCIAL: Bus tickets tied to school attendance; bursaries upon acceptance into an accredited public post secondary program. 4. ADVOCACY: Student-Parent Support Workers help build stable relationships, monitor school attendance, academic progress and program participation, and advocate on behalf of the students when the parents are unable to do so themselves. |
Communities Served | The Rexdale Pathways program serves students living in the Jamestown area bordered by Martin Grove, Finch, Albion, John Garland, and Kipling. Students must live within the catchment area, but can be studying at any high school. |
